  1. Boys and Literacy Music Project

SPash- MC Drip Drop This project has been run at Footscray Primary School where Drift Media has been working with a small group of male students who are disengaging from mainstream school. This project looked at the use of ICT, self esteem, confidence building and role modelling with the aim to switch boys back onto learning.

The project utilised the Apple iLife suite and the students have written and recorded a song based around the theme of water conservation.

After the initial recording, the students work has been taken to Big Ears Audio, where it will be professionally re mixed and pressed to CD

  3. A Point in Time- Sandringham SC - Term 3 2007

A Point In Time This project aims to extend the 3C9 initiative currently running at Sandringham College and involves a living history element utilising
    1. "a snapshot in time"
The longitudinal method involves gathering rich information about a single location- in this case Ricketts Point. Student will be required to produce short video perspectives about the location through the eyes of its main users eg a family, a café/ business owner. a ranger, a diver, an angler etc.
    2. "play it forward, play it back"
Additionally, several comparative pieces will be produced to visiualise what the location may have been like 70 years ago in 1937 and what it might be like in the future 2077- (documenting change over time)
These responses would be collated into a DVD and become a "living history" document.
Key Learning Areas: Science, SOSE, Media

    The process:
In order to produce their video perspective students will need to interact with members of the community, organise interviews, gather footage, create supporting graphics and develop a production style

    Logistics:
    Student Number: 70
Training: Staff will need basic production training prior to commencement of the project
Copyright: As a collaborative project, the Copyright is unreserved and, as it is a non commercial product, there are no restrictions in terms of usage within the educational context.
End product: 100 DVDs with cover art will be produced and distributed to participating schools, and stake holders.
Community Screening: A screening will take place in the local community.
Timeline: Project to commence term 3

  4. Base Project- Apollo Bay 2007

The Base Project has been initiated by schools in Apollo Bay p-12 , Lorne and Lavers Hill aimed at year 9 (for students not participating in the cadet programme) semester 1 2007. The aims of the project are to:
    1. Provide a vehicle for students to develop confidence in their ability to try new experiences.
    2. Expose the students to a new medium of expression.
    3. Have a completed documentary to showcase to the community at large thus extending the students into the broader community in a positive way.
    4. Teach students some skills in the visual media industry.

  5. "Greenscreen - Bluescreen - Greenscreen"

    Gippsland Student Led Multimedia Project
Combining animation and film to create digital stories.
"Greenscreen - Bluescreen - Greenscreen" aimed to promote the use of Digital Learning resources into classrooms by exploring how a story or project could be enhanced by use of multimedia. Film making supports the implementation of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards, and draws together the strands in supporting student growth across the domains in a creative, ICT rich way.

The project involved the production of a 'Digital Story' or 'Digital Project' and Documentation / evaluation of the process in the form of a report. Staff members and students from over Gippsland were invited to participate in a one day joint PD session focussing on the use of Kahootz movie maker, Windows movie maker and Stop Motion Animation and Wax. (see News Report)
After the team attended the training session they returned to school to work with their peers in the production of a 'Digital Story' or other type 'Digital Project' using the skills developed on the training day.

  6. Snapshot - Gippsland

Snapshot was a motivating learning experience for both staff and students working collaboratively in a small team to make a movie. The focus here was on creating a structured activity to take advantage of the opportunity to work with a professional film maker whilst learning production skills including pre-production planning, scripting, storyboarding, design, camera techniques and sound as well as post production editing skills. The project was completed in a set time frame, and each film included a signature item.

Snapshot is running in two different areas of Gippsland in 2007.

  7. Sages In TIme - Portland, 2006

Portland Tourist Association 'Glenelg Sages in Time' was an inter-generational project in which local students worked with an older generation in the community to produce short films featuring an older person and his/her relationship with the community over time. The project finished with a public screening of the students' films on 1 and 2 November 2006. A growing number of schools are using digital video as a powerful tool in student learning. Drift Media, in partnership with the e learning Branch has supported schools in the infrastructure necessary for this type of learning, and has provided teachers and students with opportunities to develop a broad skill set in all aspects of media production. More importantly, RE@CT has created an opportunity for students to display their media productions on the "big screen" as part of a gala screening held in their local area. Student work is celebrated in front of their peers, families, schools and broader communities.
