What is it about?

This project is ideally suited for the involvement of one teacher and a group of students from the middle years from participating schools and provides students with a platform to display media art. It aims to establish a collaborative learning space where students have access to and gain necessary skills on film production. Student work is showcased at the end of the project. Program details Each participating school will produce a 3 minute media production. Prior to production, school based crews will complete PD sessions via face-to-face meetings. These sessions will provide students with opportunities to interact with and learn from feature directors, camera operators and editors from within the film and television industry. In order to ensure that schools lacking the necessary equipment are not disadvantaged, an editing system will be developed and be available on loan to schools on a needs basis. Schools will be able to access necessary film-making equipment if they do not already have the items required.
Project aims
  • Encourage student participation and engage students in the media process,
  • Offer vocational education and links to industry placement for students wishing to further their media career
  • Support the engagement Middle Years students
  • Assist in the development of an integrated teaching and learning program
  • Enhance ICT skills
  • Extend high potential students to develop leadership skills, team work, collaboration and co-operation.

Hume Screening- 18/10/2007
The students and I learnt an enormous amount and continue to use all we learnt. All of the camera techniques learnt from Michael have been extremely useful!!
Feedback from the students was very interesting.
The kids absolutly loved their night out. Blowing up a guy on stage rated very high on the things that impressed them most! In regards to our movie, the kids thought that the close ups were effective, camera steady and audio great. I was really relieved that ours wasn't too pixalated! The kids also love the bloopers- they're sometimes funnier than the movie. They realised their planning was a really important factor in their success.
Thanks again for running such a top program!!

P.S. Sorry this is not exactly BRIEF! Moviemaking makes me too excited!

Barwon South West Screening Events 31/10/2007

Thank you for organising such a wonderful Film Festival Festival celebration. What a superb evening!
It will be one that our kids will always remember. They were all walking ten feet tall after the event. The attention to detail and focus on the students and their work made it really their night. Stig was a great choice for MC and our kids are still talking about the man that was blown up!
The most important outcome from the Re@ct Program is perhaps the film making skills which students have developed. All of our students were able to be involved in some way with the making of the film. Many of these students achieved goals which I must admit I didn't think was possible at the beginning of the project.
Please extend our sincere thanks to all those involved.
